About IST Department

The Information Science and Technology (IST) department is established in 1996 with an intake of 40 and subsequently the intake was increased to 60 in 1997 and again it was increased to 120 in 2000.
The Department is accredited by NBA in the year 2004 and was re-accredited in the year 2007. Also the department is certified by ISO - 9001 – 2000 and accredited by NAAC. Many students in all the academic years secured university ranks. 
KLCE is the first College in the State to start B.Tech course in Information science and Technology. A Bachelor of technology course in Information Science and Technology has been started with the objective of providing quality education in the area of Information Technology which is different from formal computer science. With this basic idea, subjects such as 
  1. MULTIMEDIA COMMUNICATION
  2. INTERNET TECHNOLOGIES
  3. E-COMMERCE
  4. ADVANCED DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS etc.
have been incorporated in the Bachelor Degree program in Information Science and Technology. The Department takes pride in introducing the e-commerce subject in engineering curriculum for the first time in the country. The department has well qualified faculty. In addition, the department has well qualified supporting staff. The computer center is equipped with the state–of-the-art Computer Systems with Internet connection. The Department is giving training to the students by conducting MOK interviews, Technical Quizzes, seminars etc.
The Departmental Library is having nearly 631 titles and 767 volumes, CDs on various subjects for the utilization by faculty and students.
R & D center equipped with computers and internet facility is available for the faculty members and students to pursue their research activities.

Industry – Institute Interaction
The department has signed MOU’s with the following industries for getting the students of final year trained for doing the live projects. The MOU will also cover sending the experienced staff from industry to deliver seminars on the latest topics for the benefit of the staff and the students. The senior faculty of the department will also go to the industries for delivering lectures on various concepts of Information Technology.

Activities in the Department
  • The department is conducting video conference lectures from eminent professors.
  • All the students participate in Industrial visits regularly.
  • The department conducts BOS meeting periodically to revise the syllabus at par with the syllabi of various internationally reputed universities.

  • Special classes to students to develop their communication Skills.
  • Conducting Student Seminars and Group Discussions.
  • The Department encourages the students to participate in various co-curricular and extra curricular activities

  • Five thrust areas are identified i.e., Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, Data ware housing & Mining, Computer networks and Web technologies and faculty members are contributing a lot in these areas.

  • CDC classes are conducted by Communication and Soft Skills department for the personality development of students.
